We still have snow on the ground in places. I walked around a little bit today, looking for insects. It is still not warm yet, just a few degrees above freezing.
I hoped to find something–a small fly, perhaps, or maybe a beetle. Here is the only insect I found.
I posted a photo to Bugguide.net. It seems to be the northern green-striped grasshopper, Chortophaga viridifasciata.
This is the first year that the first insect I have seen outdoors is a grasshopper. You never really know what nature is going to hand out.
