I haven’t posted for several days because I have been on a vacation away from electronic stuff (for the most part).
There is some information available about the Allgeheny mound building ant. It is thought that the mounds are a structure to control the temperature of the colony. It is known that more than one queen can be found in each mound.
Some of the pest control companies out there warn that these ants can kill plants, including small trees by “injecting formic acid” into the plants. They do seem to control the vegetation that grows on the mound.
