Just a Thought

I heard a brief story on the local news today.  One of the Iowa Republican politicians had suggested a law that would require Iowa’s public universities to hire equal numbers of politicians from each party.  He had observed that a huge majority of the college professors were Democrats, and thought that there should be more Republican professors.

This was one of the bills that did not make it out of committee in the so-called “funnel week.”

Here is my petty thought on that:  Why not change the Republican Party so that it attracts more smart people?  If the Republican Party would respect the separation of Church and State,  promote environmental conservation, promote reasonable safety regulations, and not promote rule changes that would allow any adult student to carry a concealed firearm into the classroom, maybe there would be more college professors who identify themselves as Republicans.

I don’t know.  Just a thought.

That is pretty bizarre. Is that even something that could be done, legally? Forced political integration?
I am with you, and I wonder what the national breakdown is of college professor’s partisanship.

    • Probably not legal. New politicians, especially those with strong opinions have a tendency to come up with some weird stuff. We had a court decision that allows gay marriage in Iowa. In response, on of the new politicians elected wanted a bill that would allow any business to refuse to serve someone for religious reasons. Think about that one for a while. Fortunately, that one did not make it out of committee either.
