A Visit to the Pond

We have a pond that is in the process of drying up.  I walked around it with my camera yesterday.

The partially dried mud that surrounds the pond is littered with the remains of aquatic plants and snail shells.  Still, it is a pretty good habitat for a number of terrestrial species.  I saw this very small cricket frog there:

A number of insects were hanging out on the shore line.  Butterflies, including this pearl crescent, were mudding.

I watched a group of three pearl crescents as they were briefly spooked from their mudding spots, only to return within a few seconds.
