More Summer-Like Weather

We are having very warm weather still.  Here is a photo I took a couple of days ago.  I was surprised by the number and diversity of very small insects flying around.  Are they present in the summer, and do I just not notice them because of the larger insects flying around?

This is a midge in the subfamilyOrthocladiinae.  I don’t know much beyond that–It looks like a mosquito but does not bite.  The hairy antenna indicates that it is a male.
