I have always found robber flies to be impressive. There are two small species around my place that are very common and I have photographed them a lot. There are some others that are larger and not very common, and I found one today.
I would call this one a medium-sized robber fly. It was well over 1/2 inch long, but I have seen robber flies that are a lot larger.
I don’t know the name of this one yet but I will try to find out.
