It Finally Rained!

Not much really–only about 1/10 of an inch.  Not even close to breaking the drought.

Have you ever seen giant ragweed wilt?  I didn’t think it would–it is one of the toughest weeds out there.

The long spell of extremely high temperatures seems to be broken though–the forecast is for more normal weather.  Still hot and dry, but more easily tolerated.

We still have butterflies.  The thing is, some of the usually common ones are not around, and some that we seldom see have almost become common.  Like this variegated fritillary.

Most years I feel lucky to see one.  I have seen many this year.
