The Halloween Pennant

I got a photograph of a Halloween pennant, Celithemis eponina, about a week ago.

This is a female.  I got a picture of the male of this magnificent dragonfly a couple of years ago.

This is a medium-sized to large dragonfly for this area.

Another beautiful insect with a fascinating common name – do you know how that one came about?
