If you are familiar with this blog, you might know about the Poweshiek skipper. You see it mentioned above the upper photo. History of the butterfly entries are sort of about the people associated with discovering this butterfly, or people associated with Chief Poweshiek. The roused bear refers to the explanation of the meaning of the name Poweshiek, on treaties that he signed.
There has been some significant news regarding the butterfly itself. It has been proposed for listing as an endangered species.
There are a host of things that go along with that. Hopefully there will be some money for researchers to learn more about it–one of the biggest needs for its conservation.
