Butterflies are starting to show up in numbers now, and some species are showing up for the first time this year.
Summer azures are flying in fairly significant numbers, hanging around dogwood trees and engaging in circling fights.
Great spangled fritillaries can also be found, although there are not so many of them. They are large, though, so you will see them if they are around.
I ran across this meadow fritillary on the road near my house. They are not so large, and not all that common, but you may see them if you look closely.
Little wood satyrs were common when I visited Medora prairie over the weekend. They like sunny open woodlands. I usually find them anywhere there is poison ivy.
