When Butterfly Photography is Easy

Butterfly photography is often a challenge.  It can be difficult to get close enough to an individual to get a good shot.  If you scare it away, it will be a while before you get close to another one. Not … Continue reading

Giants in Trees

West Oak Park in Mills County Iowa is a great place to observe butterflies.  It has a pretty diverse butterfly fauna, but one species really makes it special.  Giant Swallowtails, Papilia cresphontes can be found here in good numbers. The butterfly … Continue reading

View from the Porch

It is great to live in the country.  Here was the view from my front porch tonight. The deer wondered around the yard then went across the road.  I watched for four or five minutes before it moved on.  It … Continue reading

Lichens on Bone with Mite

I like to photograph lichens after or even during rain.  When wet, lichens swell up and have very bright colors. These lichens were dry and on a deer skull. Even when dry, they have an interesting look.

Enduring the Rain

We have had cool rainy weather here for at least four days.  It is getting pretty old.  This afternoon the rain quit for a while and the sun came out, but it was still cool.  I walked around a little … Continue reading
